Sprains & strains
The pain from strains and sprains can be similar and the treatment is initially the same, but have you ever wondered what the difference between them is?
A sprain is a stretch or tear of one or more ligaments (bands of connective tissue that join bones) that can result from a fall.
A strain is a stretch or tear to a muscle or one of the tendons that connect muscles to bones.
Although sprains and strains can vary from minor inconvenience to disabling, most can be easily prevented.
4 Ways to Guard Against Sprains and Strains
Avoid playing sport or exercising when you're tired.
Warm up then stretch thoroughly before you play sport or work out.
Wear properly fitting sports shoes and replace these when the tread or heel is worn.
Gradually cool down then stretch after exercise.
