Do you need a flu shot too?

The Flu is NOT just a bad cold. It's a distinct viral infection causing severe symptoms like fever, aching muscles, sore throat, headache, dry cough, stuffy nose, sneezing and extreme tiredness. It can have you bedridden for days and symptoms can last for over a week. Every year, around three million Australians are infected with flu. Some of them will suffer severe medical complications, such as pneumonia. All of us are at risk of catching flu, as the infection can affect people of all ages.

Vaccination against the flu is an effective way of protecting ourselves from this debilitating illness. It is especially important for older people and those with underlying medical conditions who may be able to receive the vaccine at a subsidised price. Flu vaccination is also an option for healthy working-age adults who want to stay fit and well during the winter months. Importantly, by protecting yourself against the flu you reduce the risk of passing flu on to family and friends (for example elderly grandparents or young children), who may be particularly vulnerable to serious complications following the flu.
